Introduction
Start with your pathology, biomarker results, scan reports and treatment history so a specialist can assess whether satri-cel is a realistic option before you travel. This checklist is for patients and caregivers applying from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. ChinaCureLink begins with the medical case and helps coordinate the next steps; treatment acceptance remains the hospital’s decision.
Who Can Start a Satri-Cel China Application?
Patients overseas can request a review, but receiving treatment requires both medical eligibility and acceptance by a suitable hospital. The approved indication covers the disease and treatment history described above. HER2-positive disease and use before the required prior treatment lines fall outside the indication in the NMPA announcement.
The pivotal CT041-ST-01 study helps explain why the reviewing team asks for detailed pathology, scans and a current assessment of daily activity.
Check | Published requirement | Source and scope |
Prior treatment | Failure of at least 2 treatment lines | NMPA approval announcement. [1] |
Age | 18–75 years | Trial criterion. [2] |
Functional status | Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status 0–1 | Trial criterion. [2] |
Measurable disease | At least 1 measurable tumour | Trial criterion. [2] |
CLDN18.2 | Immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining intensity 2+ or 3+ in at least 40% of tumour cells | Trial criterion. [2] |
HER2 | HER2-negative disease | Trial criterion. [2] |
These study criteria are evidence for the specialist to interpret. Current commercial prescribing rules must be checked against the approved product information.
VERIFY — current product requirements: Confirm the accepted CLDN18.2 assay and threshold, detailed eligibility and exclusions, repeat-infusion rules and monitoring requirements with the receiving centre. An approval announcement is insufficient for those decisions.
Start Your Preliminary Case Review Before Booking Travel
Send your pathology and scan reports for a Preliminary Case Review. Find out what needs specialist assessment before you book travel.
ChinaCureLink reviews the diagnosis, pathology, biomarkers and previous treatments, identifies suitable treatment paths for specialist assessment, and helps match the case with up to three relevant Chinese hospitals and specialists before any travel decision is made.
Matching depends on medical suitability, verified product-specific qualification and hospital acceptance.

What Records Do We Send First for a Satri-Cel China Application?
Prepare the diagnosis and biomarker reports first, followed by scans, treatment history and a current clinical summary. The order below is a practical preparation checklist; the receiving hospital confirms its required documents, formats and how recent the results must be.
Order | Record to prepare | What the reviewer needs to see |
1 | Diagnostic pathology report | The complete biopsy or surgery report, cancer type, tissue site and collection date. Include later pathology addenda. |
2 | CLDN18.2 and HER2 reports | The full results, laboratory and assay details, staining intensity and percentage where reported, and any HER2 confirmatory testing. Include the sample date and site. |
3 | Latest scan report and the comparison report | Reports for the latest computed tomography (CT) or other relevant scans. Ask the imaging centre for the actual Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) images when requested. |
4 | Treatment history in date order | Each treatment line, medicines, start and stop dates, response, reason for stopping and the last treatment date. Ask the oncologist to distinguish treatment lines from individual cycles. |
5 | Current clinical summary and available blood results | Daily activity, eating and drinking, weight changes, current symptoms, recent admissions, and available blood counts, liver, kidney and electrolyte results. |
6 | Medicines and other medical conditions | Current prescriptions and supplements, allergies, important illnesses, previous serious treatment reactions and recent infections or bleeding. |
7 | Contact and consent information | The patient’s identifying details, country, caregiver’s relationship, permission to share records and the home oncologist’s contact details. Confirm separately what the hospital needs for registration. |
For HER2, an equivocal IHC result needs the appropriate gene-amplification assessment. A brief “negative” summary should be accompanied by the full report so the receiving pathologist can review the interpretation.
After previous CLDN18.2-directed treatment, the trial required repeat CLDN18.2 assessment. Flag this treatment history when sending records.
How Should We Organise and Send the Records?
Use complete, readable files, with document type and date in each filename. Keep original-language reports alongside any translations, and ask which language and translation standard the receiving hospital accepts.
Request the confirmed medical-record submission route before sending files. If something is missing, identify it clearly and ask whether the available records are enough to begin assessment. Keep the home oncologist involved while the remaining information is gathered.
Ask the original pathology laboratory whether it still holds the tumour block or slides. The receiving laboratory should specify what it needs and how material should be transferred; arrange any new biopsy only on clinical advice. Research has used stored tumour tissue, but that does not establish a particular hospital’s satri-cel sample-acceptance rules.

What Happens During the Satri-Cel China Preliminary Review?
The preliminary review identifies whether specialist assessment is appropriate and what information is missing. It is an initial assessment; the treating hospital makes the treatment decision.
A useful review should clarify:
The medical question: Whether the diagnosis, biomarkers, prior treatment and present condition justify a satri-cel specialist opinion.
Missing evidence: Which pathology details, images, treatment dates or updated clinical information need attention.
Suitable clinical teams: Which hospitals and specialists fit the case, subject to their current product qualification and capacity.
The next decision: Whether to arrange an online consultation, obtain further information or discuss a different treatment path.
Ask for these points in writing so the caregiver and home oncologist can work from the same information.
What Should the Online Consultation Resolve?
The consultation should establish whether travelling for further assessment is reasonable in the patient’s current condition. Discuss the possible benefit, alternative treatments, the risks of waiting, any proposed bridging therapy and the conditions that would change the recommendation.
Have the patient join if possible, and arrange language support in advance. Ask who will manage ongoing cancer treatment before travel and who will respond if the patient deteriorates.
The proposed centre should confirm that it is qualified for the specific product. Shanghai’s CAR-T rules require product holders to assess treatment institutions and publish their qualified-centre lists. Ask the hospital to identify the current satri-cel listing relevant to its collection and treatment arrangements.
VERIFY — receiving-centre arrangements: Obtain current confirmation of product qualification, international-patient acceptance, consultation availability and the hospital’s required records. A preliminary match does not reserve a treatment place.
What Should Be Confirmed Before Booking Travel?
Confirm the hospital plan, payment arrangements and entry permission for the full proposed stay. Ask for written acceptance for the planned assessment, outstanding conditions, a provisional schedule and the hospital documentation needed for the visa application.
The correct entry route depends on passport, medical purpose, expected stay and where the application is made. Medical treatment may be handled under an S2 visa for private matters; the responsible Chinese embassy or consulate must confirm the route and document checklist for both patient and caregiver. Hospital invitation or admission documentation may be needed.
Ask about permission covering treatment and monitoring, including what to do if the stay changes. An extension requires an application and a decision; it should not be treated as automatic.
Cost and insurance: Obtain an itemised quotation for assessment, collection, cell preparation, bridging treatment if proposed, preparative chemotherapy, infusion, monitoring and possible complications. Confirm deposits, cancellation terms and charges if the patient becomes unable to proceed.
Ask the insurer for written pre-authorisation for the named product and hospital, planned overseas care, complications and medical evacuation. Australian patients should know that Medicare does not cover overseas treatment. New Zealand’s official travel guidance also advises checking procedure-specific cover; ordinary travel insurance should not be assumed to cover treatment travel.
VERIFY — financial plan: The individual satri-cel total, inclusions, payment terms and any insurance approval need confirmation before financial commitments.
What Are the Steps After We Arrive in China?
The clinical sequence is reassessment, cell collection, preparation with any bridging treatment, lymphodepletion, infusion and monitoring. Each stage depends on the treating team’s decision and the patient’s condition.
Stage | What happens | What to clarify with the hospital |
Arrival assessment | The team examines the patient, reviews current results and decides whether the planned pathway remains appropriate. | Which tests need updating, and what could delay or prevent collection? |
Cell collection — apheresis | Blood is processed to collect the patient’s immune cells for manufacture. | Where is collection performed, and has the team confirmed fitness to proceed? |
Manufacturing and bridging therapy | Cells are prepared and checked. The trial permitted bridging therapy. This is temporary cancer treatment during the wait. | Is bridging treatment appropriate, where will it happen, and who will manage symptoms? |
Lymphodepletion | Preparative chemotherapy reduces existing immune cells before the CAR-T infusion. | What reassessment is required before starting, and has product readiness been confirmed? |
Satri-cel infusion | Prepared cells are infused through a vein. The trial allowed up to 3 infusions. | VERIFY: The current prescribed course and criteria for any repeat infusion. |
Monitoring and follow-up | The hospital monitors for complications and plans subsequent assessments. | What admission or nearby-stay period is required, and when might travel home be medically appropriate? |
Hospital acceptance and final clearance for infusion are separate decisions. Before infusion, the treating team must confirm that the patient remains fit and that the cell product has passed its quality release checks.
The hospital decides the medicines, dose, intervals and whether additional treatment is appropriate. Further infusions require a new clinical decision; the trial’s maximum does not establish the course that an individual patient will receive.
Do not stop or change current cancer treatment to fit a travel plan. Ask the home oncologist and receiving team to agree on any treatment changes and the handover of responsibility.

How Long Does a Satri-Cel China Application Take, and What if the Cancer Progresses While We Wait?
There is no verified fixed arrival-to-infusion timetable for this article. The hospital must plan around the records, repeat testing, clinical fitness, collection arrangements and product preparation.
The trial gives context for the waiting period:
Trial observation | Reported result | Practical meaning and source |
Collection to first infusion | Median 28 days; interquartile range 25–33 days | Trial timing only. [2] |
Patients who did not reach infusion after collection | 16 of 104; 5 categorised as progression; other reasons also occurred | Trial flowchart. [2] |
The interval above begins at collection. It does not include overseas application, all pre-collection assessment or the monitoring period after infusion, and cannot establish a commercial timetable or total stay.
What Schedule Should We Ask the Hospital for?
Ask for a provisional sequence of dated milestones and the conditions attached to each one. Include record review, any repeat pathology, consultation, collection, expected product readiness, reassessment, infusion, monitoring and the decision about travelling home.
Have the hospital explain which dates are confirmed, which remain estimates and who will notify you if the plan changes. Confirm whether any waiting period can safely take place outside the hospital and whether travel during that period is appropriate.
VERIFY — timing and stay: Review turnaround, arrival-to-infusion timing, inpatient days, nearby accommodation requirements and total time away from home must be confirmed for the individual case.
What if the Patient Gets Worse While Waiting?
Seek medical reassessment promptly and update the receiving team. A completed records pack or collected cells cannot guarantee that the patient will remain well enough for treatment.
Before collection, ask the clinicians to agree on a waiting-period plan: who provides ongoing treatment, who manages symptoms and what changes would trigger urgent reassessment.
If the condition worsens, the clinicians should reconsider whether continuing towards infusion is reasonable, whether treatment needs changing, or whether care closer to home better meets the patient’s needs. Obtain an explanation of the clinical plan and any financial consequences if infusion cannot proceed.
What Are the Risks and Side Effects?
CAR-T treatment can cause serious, sometimes fatal complications. Care requires specialist monitoring and emergency support. The treating team should explain risks in the context of the patient’s cancer, nutrition, blood results and other illnesses.
Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is an inflammatory reaction that can cause fever, low blood pressure and breathing difficulty. It can be severe and needs prompt assessment. CAR-T treatment can also cause neurological problems, including confusion, unusual sleepiness or difficulty speaking.
Discuss low blood counts and digestive-tract injury or bleeding. Ask about infection precautions and monitoring. Before leaving hospital, obtain written symptom instructions and an emergency contact route that works throughout the monitoring period.
When Should We Contact Our Doctor During a Satri-cel China Application?
Contact the treating team when the patient’s condition changes, and seek urgent local care for serious symptoms while any overseas review is pending.
Seek emergency assessment for vomiting blood, black stools with faintness or marked weakness, severe abdominal pain with persistent vomiting or inability to pass stool or gas, severe breathing difficulty, collapse or new confusion. Use local emergency services or the nearest emergency department.
Fever, worsening pain, difficulty keeping fluids down, declining food intake or increasing weakness also need prompt oncology advice. Send the receiving team any new scan report, admission summary or major treatment change after the patient’s immediate needs have been addressed.
After infusion, follow the centre’s emergency instructions and tell clinicians the exact CAR-T product and treatment date. Keep the home oncologist informed about the treatment received and planned follow-up.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Start a Satri-cel China Application From Overseas?
Yes. You can request a preliminary review while the patient remains at home. Prepare the pathology and biomarker reports, scan reports, treatment history and a current clinical summary. Confirm the record-submission route before sending files. A preliminary review helps identify whether specialist assessment is appropriate; the receiving hospital must still assess the patient, confirm its ability to provide satri-cel and decide whether to accept the case.
How Fast Can Treatment Start After a Satri-cel China Application?
There is no verified fixed turnaround for review, hospital acceptance or infusion. Timing depends on complete records, any repeat testing, the patient’s condition, collection and manufacturing arrangements, and clinical reassessment. Ask the hospital for dated milestones and a plan for ongoing cancer care while waiting. Do not stop current treatment or book travel around an assumed infusion date.
Do I Need a Chinese Medical Visa For CAR-T?
The entry route depends on your passport, the medical purpose of the visit and the expected stay. Ask the Chinese embassy or consulate handling your application to confirm the requirements for both patient and caregiver. Medical treatment may use an S2 visa for private matters. Obtain the hospital’s written acceptance or invitation and follow the responsible consulate’s checklist. Do not assume that visa-free entry covers the complete treatment period or that an extension will be approved.
What If My CLDN18.2 Test is Old?
Send the existing claudin-18 isoform 2 (CLDN18.2) report with its sample date, biopsy site, assay details and treatments received since testing. An older result needs assessment by the receiving team; there is no verified universal report-expiry rule for this article. Ask whether the original tissue can be reviewed or retested and whether a new biopsy is clinically necessary. The report, preserved tissue block and previously cut slides may each need different handling.
